Simultaneous Storytime Success Across the Western Isles

More than 200 children across the Western Isles enjoyed a shared Gaelic reading experience for Seachdain na Gàidhlig as Western Isles Libraries partnered with early years settings to deliver the first ever Simultaneous Storytime.

A total of 207 children from 22 early years settings joined libraries to take part in the coordinated reading event, which saw everyone enjoying the same story at the same time.

This year’s chosen book was Nach Mìorbhaileach an Saoghal by Tim Hopgood, inspired by Louis Armstrong’s beloved song What a Wonderful World.

Western Isles Libraries extend thanks to Acair Publishing for supporting the initiative, and to the Smart Play Network for providing each participating setting with its own copy of the book.

“Cleachd i no caill i – Use it or lose it” was the theme of this year’s Seachdain na Gàidhlig.

The aim of Simultaneous Storytime was to inspire young children to engage with Gaelic books and stories from an early age, helping to nurture a lifelong love of reading.

Western Isles Libraries look forward to building on this success in future years and continuing to support Gaelic literacy and early years participation across the islands.
