Spaces for People Work on Academy Street

Following a decision by the City of Inverness Area Committee to retain a Spaces for People measure in Academy Street until permanent improvements are made, Highland Council Officers have been working to identify the most effective solutions for the intervening period that can facilitate safer, wider footpaths.

Work will be undertaken on Academy Street to replace the lane separators with a socket installed directly into the road surface that bollards will be fixed into.

Works will commence following the delivery of the sockets expected late next week.

In the interim period traffic cones will be installed between lane separators to ensure the space is used as intended, as a widened footpath.

A report updating Councillors on further potential improvements to the street (again to retain the space until permanent measures are implemented) will be brought to the City of Inverness Area Committee’s November meeting.
