Motorsport legends and rally stars from across the generations are heading to Knockhill for a blockbuster weekend marking the track’s 50th anniversary and Jimmy McRae’s 50 years in rallying.

The International McRae Rally Challenge, taking place on 20 and 21 September, will be the biggest rally event in Knockhill’s history and a fitting finale to a year of celebration at Scotland’s National Motorsport Centre.

With a packed entry list and a host of famous names, organisers say it’s set to be a landmark moment in Scottish motorsport.

The rally will feature 90 competing crews, including 65 seasoned drivers from the Scottish, British and European rally championships, and 25 rising stars from the Junior Ecosse 1000 championship for 14 to 17-year-olds.

Ten stages covering 40 miles will run across two days, taking in the race track, rally stage, rallycross section, including the newly renamed McRae Corner and Knockhill’s perimeter road.

Off the track, fans can expect a showcase of 50 iconic rally cars from the past five decades, along with 100 owner display vehicles from Ford and Subaru enthusiasts.

Among the star-studded guest list are IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti, Le Mans winner Allan McNish, Olympian Sir Chris Hoy, and three generations of the McRae family.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the interest,” said Knockhill events director Stuart Gray.

“I’ve been here for 40 years, and I can’t remember ever seeing such excitement around a single event.”

The rally marks the close of Knockhill’s 50th season, which began with a bike event back in September 1974.

A near sell-out book, Knockhill – 50 Years of Racing, has helped reconnect competitors and fans across five decades of motorsport history.

Gates open at 7.30am on both days, with action running from 8.30am to around 5.30pm.

Day tickets cost £20, or £35 for the weekend.
