During Prime Minister’s Questions today, the MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, Jamie Stone, invited the Government to offer its praise for ongoing work at the Sutherland Spaceport.

Mr Stone referenced the newly established North Coast Space Cluster, made up of businesses, local government, and enterprise agencies, claiming that it presents “huge opportunities to build on local skills”.

The MP also highlighted the positive impact of potential links between the Sutherland Spaceport and international space, notably in the United States.

Responding, the Deputy Prime Minister, Oliver Dowden, claimed that the UK Government is “working with the United States, particularly through the Technology Safeguards Agreement, to allow UK companies to exchange technology with the United States.”

Commenting, Mr Stone said:

“Work is not only well underway at Sutherland Spaceport, but in fact ahead of schedule.

“It is doubly encouraging to see the establishment of the North Coast Space Cluster which will ensure a sturdy source of communication and co-operation between stakeholders and the local community.

“I share in the excitement of my constituents too at the prospect of links between our Sutherland Spaceport and space businesses all over the world.

“This can only be a good thing for the Far North and indeed the UK.”
