Sunak Dodging Democracy Again

The SNP has slammed the Prime Minister for, once again, failing to outline the route for Scotland to decide its own future.

Addressing members of the Liaison Committee, Rishi Sunak failed on multiple occasions to set out the democratic route for Scotland to choose independence – despite the Scottish people voting overwhelming in favour of a second independence referendum last year.

Commenting, Pete Wishart MP said:

“Once again, the Prime Minister is ducking and dodging when it comes to Scotland’s democratic future.

“We are told the union is ‘voluntary’ but Rishi Sunak’s squirming and his failure to outline how the people of Scotland can choose their own future shows that is an empty boast.

“And the reason the Prime Minister doesn’t set out a route for an independence referendum is because he knows the people of Scotland are sick and tired of this corrupt, dysfunctional, outdated Westminster system.

“Instead of letting the people of Scotland have their democratic say in a referendum – something they voted overwhelmingly for last year – Rishi Sunak will now do everything in his power to stop it from happening.

“Sooner or later, the Prime Minister and the Westminster establishment will have to succumb to the democratic wishes of the Scottish people.

“Their voice will be heard.”
