Thrilling Victories and Close Battles Mark a Busy Weekend of Shinty Action

Shinty fans were treated to a feast of action across the country this past weekend as teams fought hard in league and cup competitions.

In Mowi North Division 2 on Friday night, Lochaber edged a seven-goal thriller against Inverness.

David Langan opened the scoring and later added a second, with Dillon Brockie and Innes Whyte also on target.

Inverness replied through Graeme Irvine, Nathan Harrison and Jack Leslie, but Lochaber held on for a 4-3 victory.

Saturday’s Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup second round saw Newtonmore in fine form as they swept aside Glenurquhart 4-0.

Meanwhile, Fort William were clinical with a 6-0 win over Inverness, with Victor Smith netting four times.

Inveraray progressed with a 3-0 win over Beauly.

Elsewhere, Oban Camanachd edged Lochaber 2-1, while Kingussie secured a 2-1 win away to Skye.

In Bullough Cup action, Lochside Rovers ran out 5-0 winners over Strachur Dunoon.

Beauly advanced on penalties after a dramatic tie.

League fixtures were equally exciting.

In the Mowi National Division, Newtonmore beat Beauly 4-1 while Skye impressed with a 7-2 victory.

In Mowi North Division 1, Fort William defeated Glenurquhart 6-1 and Lovat recorded a 5-0 win over Lewis.

Aberdeen University claimed a solid 2-0 victory over Boleskine in North Division 2, while Caberfeidh triumphed 6-1 over Lochcarron.

South of the country, Col Glen edged Bute 1-0 in South Division 1, and Uddingston won 2-1 at Bute in South Division 2.

Aberdour were 1-0 winners at Tayforth.

Youth competitions also provided great entertainment.

In the Mowi National Under 17 League, Caberfeidh outscored Beauly 6-3, while Glenurquhart defeated Inverness.

In the Under 17 Development League, Glenurquhart impressed with a 9-0 win over Inverness.

Strathglass also notched a 2-0 win over Lochaber.

There was a packed schedule for the Mowi Under 14 League as well, with standout results including Lovat’s 7-0 win over Newtonmore and Glenurquhart’s 3-0 success against Skye.

Women’s shinty was just as lively.

In the Mowi Premier League, Kinlochshiel won 4-1, while Inverness were beaten 5-2.

Badenoch shone in the National League with an emphatic 8-2 victory.

In the North League, Lochaber’s women impressed with a commanding 9-0 win against Strathspey.

Elsewhere, Glenurquhart saw Rowan Brockie score seven in a big win.

With the season now in full flow, fans can expect more thrills and surprises in the weeks ahead.
