Drivers using the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful are being advised of further temporary diversions later this month and into August, as essential ground investigation work continues on the hillside above the route.
The work, which is part of long‑term efforts to improve safety and resilience along one of Scotland’s most notorious roads, will require traffic to be diverted onto the Old Military Road between 8am and 6pm on 28 and 29 July, and again on 11 and 12 August.
Transport Scotland said the diversions are necessary to allow large cranes and specialist drilling equipment to operate safely, with the full width of the A83 carriageway needed for the work.
The closures are being carried out in daylight hours to ensure safety for both workers and drivers, with the agency acknowledging the frustration that repeated diversions can cause local residents, businesses and those travelling through the area.
A spokesperson said every effort will be made to minimise disruption and to complete the work as quickly as possible, while recognising the vital role of the Old Military Road in keeping Argyll and Bute connected during periods of closure.
The investigations will see cranes lift specialist drilling rigs onto the hillside to carry out detailed ground surveys, part of the ongoing strategy to tackle landslip risks and deliver a permanent solution for the route.
Transport Scotland thanked the community for its continued patience and emphasised its commitment to keeping Argyll and Bute “open for business” while these vital safety improvements are delivered.
