Tree felling is set to take place on the A9 northbound at Artafallie Junction, around two miles north of the Kessock Bridge, as BEAR Scotland carries out overnight works on behalf of Transport Scotland starting on 12 January 2026.

The essential landscape works are being carried out to remove potentially hazardous trees and improve the long term resilience and safety of the trunk road.

The works will run overnight between 7pm and 6am each night from Monday 12 January 2026 through to the morning of Saturday 24 January 2026.

All traffic management will be removed outside of working hours to minimise disruption for road users during the day.

Due to the close proximity of the trees to the carriageway, there will be lane closures on the northbound A9 during the works.

Occasional full closures of the northbound carriageway will also be required to allow for the safe removal of larger trees.

BEAR Scotland has confirmed that any full closures will last no longer than 15 minutes at a time.

The line of mature beech trees along the boundary of the site will be retained as part of the works.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times throughout the duration of the operation.

Scheduled bus services will also continue to run during the works period.

BEAR Scotland says the works are necessary to reduce the risk posed by trees close to the road and to help protect the reliability of the A9 in the future.

Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said:

“These tree felling works on the A9 at Artafallie Junction will improve the resilience of the trunk road network.

“Our teams will carry out these works quickly, with safety as our top priority.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.”

Drivers using the A9 northbound during the overnight hours are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys where possible.

Road users are also encouraged to follow signage and instructions from traffic management staff while the works are under way.

The A9 remains one of the most important transport routes in the Highlands, and the works form part of ongoing efforts to maintain its safety and reliability for everyone who depends on it.
