Two Arrested After Drugs Seized on Harris Ferry

Two people have been arrested and charged after drugs with an estimated street value of up to £67,500 were recovered by police in Tarbert on the Isle of Harris on 23 March 2026.

Officers boarded a ferry at around 2.25pm at the terminal on Pier Road, where they seized the substances, believed to be cocaine, along with a three figure sum of cash.

A 48 year old man and a 37 year old woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the recovery.

Both have been released on an undertaking and are due to appear at Stornoway Sheriff Court at a later date.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Inspector Andy Bilton said:

“This recovery again highlights our ongoing commitment to tackle, detect and disrupt drug-related offences across the Western Isles.

“Officers were assisted by PD Viv, our Alcohol and Drug Partnership funded police dog, and her handler PC Calum Iain Macdonald.

“Their specialist skills played a key role in the recovery.

“Again, we would urge anyone who has information about drug supply or dealing on the islands, to contact police.

“It is only by working together that we can combat this evil trade.”

Police say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply of illegal drugs across island communities.

The recovery highlights continued enforcement activity in the Western Isles, with officers working alongside specialist teams to target drug related crime.
