Professor Chris O’Neil is stepping down as Principal and Chief Executive of UHI Inverness after almost ten years leading the institution.

The process to appoint his successor is now underway, with the Board of Management confirming arrangements are being put in place to ensure a smooth transition.

Professor O’Neil has led UHI Inverness for the past nine years, overseeing the continued development of the college and its role in providing education, training and support across the Highlands.

Paying tribute to his contribution, Interim Chair of the UHI Inverness Board of Management, Janette Campbell, thanked him for his dedication and commitment.

She said:

“I wish to express my sincere thanks to Chris for his dedication and commitment to UHI Inverness over the last nine years.

“We wish him every success and all the very best for the future.

“The board of management is working with Chris to ensure the continued delivery of the high-quality education, care and support that our students and wider community have come to expect from UHI Inverness.

“Further information on the process and timeline for appointing an Interim Principal and Chief Executive will be announced in due course.”

Reflecting on his time at UHI Inverness, Professor O’Neil described the role as the highlight of his career.

He said:

“It has been a true privilege to lead and support the education of our students for nearly a decade and to work alongside such skilled and dynamic colleagues.

“My time at UHI Inverness has undoubtedly been the highlight of my career to date, and I wish my successor, colleagues and students all the very best.”

UHI Inverness said further details on the appointment of an Interim Principal and Chief Executive, along with the timetable for recruiting a permanent successor, will be announced in due course.
