Westminster Parties Failing on Cost of Living

A majority of people in Scotland think both Labour and the Tories are failing on the cost of living crisis, according to new polling.

YouGov polled people across Great Britain on who they think is best to deal with the crisis between Labour and the Tories.

Of those expressing an opinion, 55% of people asked in Scotland said neither of them.

Commenting, SNP MSP Siobhian Brown said:

“Westminster isn’t working for the people of Scotland in tackling this cost of living crisis.

“Boris Johnson is on a European holiday tour, whilst the rest of the Tory party is taking part in their vanity leadership contest whilst thousands of families struggle to pay their bills and buy food.

“Meanwhile the Labour party is standing back and suggesting nothing but tinkering around the edges and demonising workers for wanting better pay.

“The SNP Scottish Government has already committed £3billion of support for households across the country to help with the cost of living crisis.

“This is on top of other support such as the Scottish Child Payment, which was doubled in April, and is unavailable anywhere else in the UK.

“However, the majority of economic levers to tackle the Tory-made crisis lie with Westminster, which is completely failing to take the urgent action needed.

“That is why it is only with independence that Scotland can have the full powers to fully support households across the country and escape the chaos at Westminster.”
