It’s that time of year again – time to boost health, fitness and fun with Love to Ride’s exhilarating winter cycling challenge, Winter Wheelers

Shetland Islands Council is working with Love to Ride to deliver Winter Wheelers from 1st – 25th December 2023.

This all-inclusive cycling challenge welcomes both seasoned riders and those who haven’t cycled in years – or even ever.

Register for free at www.lovetoride.net and log your cycle rides – indoor or outdoor – before midnight to enter daily prize draws.

Invite others to take part for more chances to win.

Riders will gain access to quick courses and a wealth of tips and informative articles to help boost their biking confidence.

All participants will receive personalised emails to help them overcome their specific barriers and to guide them toward riding safely in a winter wonderland.

Last year, Winter Wheelers saw over 21,000 enthusiastic participants across the UK, including over 550 ‘thaw-some’ new riders, wrap up and ride while competing for fantastic prizes.

This year Love to Ride is determined to demonstrate that riding in winter doesn’t need to give you cold feet.

Love to Ride is a global organisation dedicated to encouraging and supporting cycling through behaviour-change theory and techniques.

Their mission is to inspire and enable more people to enjoy the benefits of cycling.

The initiative in Shetland is supported by the Paths for All ‘Smarter Choices, Smarter Places’ fund, which aims to encourage more people to drive less and to walk or cycle as part of their everyday short journeys.

Shona Park, Love To Ride Community Engagement Officer said:

Winter Wheelers is a great opportunity to jump on your bike to go for a quick spin and warm up or head out to a cafe and meet some friends.

“You can also take part in your local gym or spin class too.

If you need any advice or support to get started please contact me at shona@lovetoride.net”

Join Love to Ride’s Winter Wheelers to conquer the cold, banish anxiety, boost energy levels, and enhance happiness.

As well as improving your physical and mental health, you’ll save money on transport and reduce your carbon footprint.
