Yellow Weather Warning Issued for Tuesday as Rain and Snow Set to Hit The Highlands

A yellow weather warning has been issued for the Highlands and Eilean Siar as heavy rain and snow are forecast to bring disruption to travel, power supplies, and daily life across the region.

The warning is in force from 6am until 11.59pm on Tuesday, covering a full day of unsettled and potentially disruptive conditions.

Prolonged rain is expected at low levels, with heavier bursts at times increasing the risk of surface water and localised flooding.

As conditions change with elevation, rain will turn to snow on higher ground, bringing increasingly wintry conditions across hills and mountains.

While significant snowfall is unlikely at lower elevations, accumulations are expected to build steadily with height, particularly on upland routes and exposed areas.

High level roads are likely to be most affected, with drifting possible in brisk winds, making some journeys difficult or hazardous for periods.

The warning highlights the likelihood of longer journey times by road, bus, and rail, with spray, standing water, and reduced visibility all contributing to challenging travel conditions.

There is also a risk of temporary interruptions to power supplies and other essential services, especially in more exposed and rural communities.

Residents are being advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for journeys, and check road conditions and public transport updates before travelling.

Drivers are encouraged to carry basic essentials in case of delays, including warm clothing, food, water, and a fully charged mobile phone.

People living in areas prone to flooding are urged to remain alert and consider simple preparations to reduce the impact should water levels rise.

Weather conditions can change quickly, and people across the Highlands are being encouraged to stay informed and keep an eye on local forecasts throughout Tuesday.

With winter conditions continuing to make their presence felt, the message is clear, take care, plan ahead, and be prepared.
