The creative heart of Orkney will be on full display this month as UHI Orkney invites the public to its much-loved Fine Arts End of Year Exhibition.

This annual event shines a light on the ingenuity and dedication of students from the BA Fine Art and NC Art and Design courses.

The week-long celebration opens with a special launch evening on Friday 6 June, from 6pm to 8pm, at the East Road campus Art Studios.

Everyone is welcome, and guests can enjoy refreshments kindly provided by local business Kirkness & Gorie.

From Saturday 7 June, visitors will be treated to an eclectic showcase of work.

The exhibition will run daily, excluding Sunday 8 June, until Friday 14 June, from 10am to 4pm.

A wide array of mediums will be on display, offering something for all tastes.

Expect vibrant paintings, intricate sculptures, striking digital art, and immersive installations.

The NC Art and Design students will also be unveiling innovative projects, from handcrafted jewellery created in partnership with Ortak, to dynamic short films.

Lecturer Louise Barrington shared her pride in this year’s show.

“This year’s End of Year Exhibition celebrates the rich creativity and unique perspectives of our current artists,” she said.

“It is a testament to their hard work, passion, and growth throughout their journey with us.”

Fittingly titled Work in Progress, Work and Progress, the exhibition invites visitors to explore thought-provoking pieces that reflect both the personal journeys of the students and broader contemporary themes.

More than an art show, this is a vibrant celebration of the role of creative education in shaping the cultural landscape of Orkney and beyond.

For those looking to experience the future of Scottish art, and to support the next generation of artists, this is an event not to be missed.
