AC Scott, also known as Alison Craig, will release her new single Highlands on 17 April, offering a deeply personal glimpse into her debut album Out Of The Blue, which follows on 26 April.
The piano led track sits at the emotional centre of the album, drawing on personal loss and lived experience to deliver something both intimate and unforgettable.
Highlands is described as the most personal piece on the record, written in the aftermath of grief and shaped by a moment many will recognise but few can express.
AC Scott said:
“It is the most personal song I have ever written.
“I sobbed as I wrote it.
“It came from that gut-wrenching moment when you realise your parents are declining and your roles begin to reverse.
“You become the carer, the adult.
“I don’t think I truly faced the sadness of that loss until I sat down at the piano and ‘Highlands’ just poured out.
“It was so hard to write and almost impossible to sing.
“I actually changed the parent in the song to my dad; it was the only way I could perform it without breaking down.”
The single arrives as part of a fourteen track debut album that moves between stripped back piano ballads and more expansive, cinematic arrangements.
Out Of The Blue reflects a journey shaped by resilience, creativity and a return to music after a life changing diagnosis forced a step away from broadcasting.
Before music, AC Scott built a high profile career across television and radio, earning a Sony Award and appearing on The One Show.
A diagnosis of LAM changed that path, leading first to a successful writing career before music emerged as the defining creative outlet.
Since then, her work has taken shape across the Highlands, London and Los Angeles, supported by collaborations and a determination to create on her own terms.
Highlands stands as the clearest expression of that journey, a song that does not attempt to soften its message, but instead tells it plainly and with real weight.
