The Moray Active Schools and Community Sport team are part of a national initiative led by a partnership of Sportscotland and Moray Council.

The Primary Schools Cross Country event is the largest one-off participation event on their annual calendar.

The festival runs from 10.45am–1pm on Saturday 23 March at Gordon Castle in Fochabers and has previously been the largest participation sporting event for young people in Moray.

Around 600 children from across the area will take part this year.

It’s a chance for primary school pupils to come together in a spirit of friendly competition and gives them a truly ‘big event feel’.

It’s also a bridge between school and community activity, providing pathways to encourage lifelong participation in sport.

Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said:

“This is our Active Schools flagship event of the year, with 600 runners from across Moray taking part, and around 1,000 people spectating.

“It’s fantastic that the young people of Moray get to participate in such a big event and experience the excitement that sport can bring.”

New for 2024, the Moray Council leisure team have donated a prize of a year’s family Fit Life? membership, the winner will be selected at random from one of the races.

Results and timings will be available on request after the event.
