Moray Council is changing how it charges for use of its 26-electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the region to offer better value for drivers.
Since their introduction in 2014 the charging points, funded by the Scottish Government’s ChargePlace Scotland grant, had a flat fee £3.80 per charge, regardless of the type of charger or consumption.
From 1 April this will move to a tariff of £0.28 per kWh with no connection fee, and a minimum charge of £1, which makes allowance for standing charges and maintenance as well as consumption.
Chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee, Cllr Graham Leadbitter, said:
“Moving from a flat fee to a tariff brings us in-line with our counterparts in local authorities across Scotland and better allows us to maintain the no net loss/no net gain principle.
“We’ve also committed to review this in 12 months, so we can be sure we’re offering the best value for EV drivers while not putting the council in a financially unstable position.
“It will take all these little changes to help achieve the council’s aim to be carbon neutral by 2030 and I look forward to seeing the wider EV strategy being put to this committee soon.”
