Local athletes battled it out at a fitness competition at CrossFit 57 North on Sunday 4th August in a bid to raise funds for a Drumnadrochit mum who will be competing at the 2024 Adaptive CrossFit Games in San Antonio, Texas.
The competition has pushed Rachel’s fundraising campaign well beyond 65% of its goal to get her and her coaching team to the Games, with £5,585 raised of the £8,000 target.
34-year-old Rachel Hives, who was diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) at the age of 19, secured her place at the Games after competing against CrossFit’s adaptive athlete community in a series of qualifying events earlier this year.
She has now earned her place in the final 10 of the Female Standing Diagnosed category at the 2024 Adaptive CrossFit Games.
Rachel goes into the final in Texas from 19th-22nd September seeded first place in the UK.
The fundraising competition at CrossFit 57 North saw 13 mixed pairs teams battling it out in three workouts with the top three teams then going on to the final.
Taking the win were Eilidh MacLennan and Alec Young from CrossFit 57 North, followed by Emma Hudson and Zak Labanca from RAM CrossFit in Dingwall in second place, and Ruth McArthur and Nathan Gibbons from CrossFit Ythsie in Ellon in third place.
Commenting on the competition and fundraising campaign, Rachel Hives said:
