A major new attraction taking shape in the heart of the Cairngorms is set to bring thousands more visitors to the Highlands as Landmark Forest Adventure Park unveils plans for a £500,000 forest adventure zone centred around Scotland’s first six lane forest toboggan run.
Work is already underway at the popular Carrbridge attraction, where an 18 month construction project is transforming part of the ancient pinewood forest into what is expected to become one of the most talked about family attractions in Scotland when it opens later this summer.
For generations of Highland families, Landmark has been a rite of passage, a place where children race through the trees, discover hidden corners of the forest and return years later with families of their own, and this latest investment represents the biggest new chapter in that continuing story.
The new attraction is expected to attract an additional 10,000 visitors during its first year alone, adding to the 170,000 people who already visit the park annually and strengthening its position as one of the Highlands’ most important family tourism destinations.
At the centre of the development will be a six lane toboggan style run that will allow visitors aged four and above to race side by side through a winding network of open air and covered sections built amongst the woodland.
Alongside the headline attraction, visitors will also find bouncing pillows, climbing structures, obstacle courses, accessible play equipment, musical installations and sand play areas designed to ensure the space appeals to a wide range of ages and abilities.
What makes the project particularly significant is that it has been designed and built by Landmark’s own in house team, with timber and materials carefully integrated into the forest setting that has helped define the attraction for more than half a century.
General Manager Ross Coulter said:
“Landmark has been evolving for over 50 years, but the focus has always stayed the same, delivering a totally unique day out and creating magical memories for multiple generations of families.
“This new area is a major investment for us and forms part of our wider long-term commitment to continually improving the overall visitor experience.
“The toboggan run will be the first attraction of its kind in Scotland, and we think it’s going to be hugely popular with both children and adults.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support Highlands and Islands Enterprise has provided towards the project.
“Attractions like this play a vital role in the wider tourism economy of the Highlands.
“Independent analysis suggests this new development alone could generate more than £1.5 million for the Highland economy over the next 12 months, not to mention the wider economic impact it could deliver for many years to come.
“Our aim is not only to encourage more families to visit Landmark, but to help bring additional visitors to the area, support local jobs and businesses, and continue strengthening the Cairngorms as one of Scotland’s leading family tourism destinations.”
The investment arrives at a time when tourism continues to play an increasingly important role in the Highland economy, supporting jobs, businesses and communities across the region while helping showcase the natural beauty that makes the area one of Scotland’s most popular visitor destinations.
Peter Allen of Highlands and Islands Enterprise believes the latest development will build on Landmark’s long reputation for innovation.
He said:
“Innovation has always been part of Landmark Forest Adventure Park’s DNA.
“Each season brings fresh thinking and new ways to enhance the visitor experience, and this investment represents an important next step.
“It will create new jobs in Badenoch and Strathspey, strengthen the local economy, and enable Landmark to continue delivering a high-quality visitor experience while enhancing the wider tourism offering in the area.”
Set amongst 30 acres of woodland on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, Landmark has spent more than five decades growing from a simple forest attraction into one of Scotland’s best loved family destinations, and this latest investment suggests its story is still very much gathering pace.
