Visitors to the Inverness Castle Experience will soon have the chance to weave a piece of Highland heritage for themselves as a new partnership with award winning weaving mill Prickly Thistle brings exclusive tartan workshops to the city’s landmark attraction.
The special events, taking place on 28 August, mark the first time members of the public will be able to experience Prickly Thistle’s weaving workshops outside the company’s Highland mill while creating their own keepsake using the bespoke Inverness Castle Experience Tartan.
The collaboration builds on the bespoke tartan created for the attraction, which features throughout the Castle in its exhibition spaces and exclusive retail collection, giving visitors a deeper insight into one of Scotland’s best known traditions.
Guests can choose between two experiences hosted in the Castle’s North Tower.
The daytime Tartan and Tea workshop combines a hands on introduction to weaving with tea and cake overlooking Inverness from the North Tower Bar.
For those looking for an evening event, Tartan at Twilight pairs the weaving experience with handcrafted cocktails and canapes while enjoying the Castle after hours.
Both workshops will be led by Prickly Thistle founder Clare Campbell, who will introduce participants to the history, symbolism and craftsmanship behind tartan before guiding them through creating their own woven souvenir.

Designed for beginners, both workshops include all materials and equipment, making them accessible whether participants are trying weaving for the first time or simply looking to experience a different side of Highland culture.
