Labour Accused of Giving Up in Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey

The SNP say Labour has given up in Moray West, Nairn & Strathspey with the Labour HQ website directing their supporters to campaign in Fife & Glasgow.

As part of a campaign drive, Labour’s website asks volunteers to enter their postcode to find volunteering opportunities in ‘battleground areas’ ‘near you’.

With IV & PH postcodes requiring activists to travel up to 110 miles to Dunfermline or Glasgow, the SNP’s Graham Leadbitter has said Labour has ‘given up’ in Moray West, Nairn & Strathspey.

Mr Leadbitter said:

“With Labour backing a Brexit that is hammering hospitality businesses and our major producers across Moray West, Nairn & Strathspey it is no surprise that they are looking elsewhere for votes.

“What is surprising is that they are so blatantly giving up and diverting activists elsewhere.

“With plans to axe 100,000 energy jobs, which has impacts right across Moray and Highland, it’s no surprise that Keir Starmer is sending Labour volunteers to the central belt but it’s still a massive humiliation for their local candidates.

“We know seats here are a straight fight between the SNP and the Tories, but it seems Labour has packed it in altogether – SNP volunteers and candidates will be out every day in their numbers in this constituency to ensure we do not have a Tory MP following in the footsteps of the likes of Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.

“Our region has always been an afterthought to Labour, but the SNP will always put Scotland first and ensure that our people, our businesses and our communities’ voices are heard in Westminster and ultimately that we are able to take the best decisions with the full and normal powers of independence.”
