Labour’s Key Principles Lead With Utter Hypocrisy

Latest Labour paper shows Sarwar cannot be trusted.

The SNP has called for Anas Sarwar to apologise for his hypocrisy, as the so-called key principles in his latest paper are wholly undermined by his denial of the democratic mandate for an independence referendum.

Following the publication of a paper on strengthening democracy in Scotland, Scottish Labour outlined key driving principles allegedly leading Scottish Labour’s plans.

It begins with the first statement that the ‘Scottish people are sovereign and have the right to determine the best form of government suited to our needs’ despite the fact that he denies the Scottish Government have a greater mandate for a referendum than the one achieved in 2011.

The SNP said it is ‘one of the most dishonest documents published by a political party in recent times’ as they continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Tories in trying to block the democratic will of the people.

SNP MSP Paul McLennan has said that if Sarwar wants anyone to believe a word he or his party say then he must stop deferring Scotland’s sovereignty to Keir Starmer and the Tories, and support the right of the people of Scotland to have a choice over their future.

Commenting SNP MSP Paul McLennan said:

“Scottish Labour’s so-called key principles are a con trick, and Anas Sarwar should apologise for trying to hoodwink people with this hypocrisy.

“If Labour had a shred of honesty or integrity, their top pledge – that the “Scottish people are sovereign and have the right to determine the best form of government suited to our needs” – would mean that they support the democratic mandate for an independence referendum; a mandate greater than the one achieved in 2011 and which they accepted.

“Instead Anas Sarwar remains silent about the latest attacks on who and what the Scottish people vote for and in its place stands shoulder to shoulder with the Tories in trying to block the democratic will of the people.

“His actions show his position is as credible as Keir Starmer’s leadership promises to Labour members.

“Their paper is one of the most dishonest documents published by a political party in recent times, but the people of Scotland can see right through it.

“It is just another example of how Labour can’t be trusted when it comes to the right of the people of Scotland to decide their future and the longer Labour side with the Tories the more irrelevant they become.”
