A man and a woman have been arrested and charged after police recovered Class A drugs with an estimated street value of more than £90,000 from a vehicle on the A9 near Tain.
Officers from the Highlands and Islands Road Policing Unit stopped a car at about 4.40pm on Saturday 11 October 2025 following intelligence-led inquiries.
MDMA with an estimated street value of £80,000 and cocaine worth around £12,900 were seized from the vehicle.
A 39-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the recovery and have been charged.
Constable Connor Milne, of the Highlands and Islands Road Policing Unit, described the operation as a “significant recovery” and said it underlined ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply of illegal drugs.
“This demonstrates our continued efforts to disrupt the supply of illegal drugs and reduce the harm they cause in our communities,” he said.
Milne said the seizure also reflected the work of the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the national Serious Organised Crime Strategy, and highlighted the value of partnerships in tackling serious criminality.
He urged anyone with concerns about drugs in their area to pass information to Police Scotland via 101, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Police have not named the two people charged and court appearances will be listed at a later date.
The discovery will be subject to further investigation as officers seek to establish the wider circumstances surrounding the supply and intended distribution of the drugs.
Local communities have repeatedly urged vigilance after a series of high-value drug recoveries across the Highlands in recent years, with policing teams stressing the links between organised supply and local harm.
The seizure on the A9 is one of the larger recoveries reported in the region this year and will form part of ongoing work by specialist units to target those they suspect of being involved in organised drug supply networks.
