New business units being developed in Golspie could provide an important boost for local enterprise and investment across Sutherland as businesses are invited to express interest ahead of completion later this year.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise is developing the new premises at Golspie Business Park with construction currently under way by Morrison Construction.
The development forms part of wider efforts to strengthen economic opportunities in rural Highland communities by increasing access to modern and flexible commercial space.
Golspie Business Park was originally developed by HIE during the 1990s with nine development plots created as part of the original site.
Over the years the park has grown into an important local business hub supporting companies across Golspie and the wider Sutherland economy.
The latest phase of development will introduce a range of adaptable office and industrial units designed to suit different business needs and commercial sectors.
Plans include two office units measuring 55 square metres each alongside two light industrial units of 95 square metres and a larger industrial unit spanning 195 square metres.
The units are being designed with flexibility in mind, allowing businesses to adapt the space depending on operational requirements.
For rural areas such as Sutherland, access to affordable modern premises can often become one of the biggest barriers facing local companies looking to expand or relocate.
HIE says the investment is intended not only to support existing businesses but also attract new enterprises into the area.
HIE Area Manager for Caithness and Sutherland Eann Sinclair said the new development represented an important step for the local economy.
“Modern, flexible premises are vital to enable local businesses to grow and to attract new businesses into the area.
“We’ve worked hard to bring forward this programme of work for Golspie Business Park, and I’m delighted to see construction under way.
“We’d love to hear from businesses in the area that may be interested in the new units, or from any outside the area looking to locate here.”
Gordon Williamson said the project would help strengthen opportunities for business growth across the area.
“We are pleased with the excellent progress the team is making in delivering these high quality, flexible business units in Golspie for Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
“Developments like this play an important role in supporting local economies, providing opportunities for businesses to grow and helping to attract new investment into rural communities.
“We look forward to seeing these units come to life and the positive impact they will bring to the area.”
The Golspie development forms part of a broader HIE strategy to expand flexible business infrastructure across rural parts of the Highlands and Islands where demand for commercial premises often outstrips supply.
Businesses interested in the new units are being encouraged to contact HIE directly as construction continues toward completion later this year.
