New Homes in Evanton Mark Major Milestone in Highland Housing

There’s a new row of homes in Evanton, and for twenty-four families, they mark the start of something life-changing.

The Highland Council has now completed its latest social housing development at Teandallon, a key moment in the region’s ongoing mission to meet the Highland Housing Challenge and provide more people with a place to truly call home.

Built by Highland-based Compass Construction Ltd, the development includes a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties, designed to meet the needs of real families, not just the numbers on a list.

This is more than a ribbon-cutting, it’s the 1000th affordable home Compass has delivered in the Highlands, a milestone the Council says reflects years of commitment, partnership and place-based investment.

The build was supported by £3.49 million in grant funding from the Scottish Government, with the remainder covered by The Highland Council, a public partnership rooted in practical delivery.

Cllr Glynis Campbell Sinclair, Chair of the Council’s Housing and Property Committee, said she was proud to see the homes completed and handed over to new tenants.

“I am delighted that The Highland Council, working with the appointed Highland-based builders and contractors, has successfully delivered 24 new homes for social rent at the Teandallon, Evanton development,” she said.

She added:

“As part of our commitment to meeting the Highland Housing Challenge, we will continue working collaboratively to build a strong portfolio of housing stock so people across the region have real, viable options available to them.”

“New housing can have a transformational impact for people and place,” she said, “and I wish every tenant happiness in their new homes.”

The homes at Teandallon aren’t just modern and energy-efficient, they’ve been built with community in mind, forming part of a longer-term vision for sustainable, secure housing across Ross-shire and beyond.

For Compass Construction, the project carries a special weight, with Managing Director Thom MacLeod describing the milestone as both personal and deeply rooted in the region.

“We are delighted to complete handover here at Teandallon, Evanton,” he said.

“It’s a significant build for us as it marks our 1000th affordable house in the Highlands, but there’s a far bigger picture here in terms of what this represents.”

“This is so much more than bricks and mortar,” he said.

“Behind these homes are the social and economic layers, training up a local workforce, creating jobs, engaging with communities, supporting charities, partnering with employers and helping people prosper where they live.”

As tenants settle in and turn houses into homes, this build stands as a reminder that housing done well isn’t just shelter, it’s opportunity, stability, and pride in place.

And in Evanton, that future has just begun.
