New Report Shows Brexit Hammering UK’s Trade With The EU

Boris Johnson’s botched Brexit deal is causing “untold misery” to businesses across the UK, according to the SNP, after a new report exposed the depth of the decline caused by leaving the EU.

The analysis, conducted by the LSE Centre for Economic Performance, has concluded that the UK’s post-Brexit trade deal with the EU has caused a huge decline in the number of relationships the UK has with the bloc – with red tape at the border curbing the ability to export for smaller firms.

The analysis concluded that trading data between buyers and sellers have declined by a third following the agreement signed by Boris Johnson back in January 2021.

The SNP’s Shadow International Trade spokesperson, Drew Hendry MP, believes the only way to protect Scotland’s businesses from more “Westminster mismanagement” is by re-joining the European Union as an independent country.

Commenting, the SNP’s Shadow International Trade spokesperson Drew Hendry MP said:

“With each passing week, we see new figures that highlight the devastating impact Brexit is having on businesses across all four nations of the UK.

“Ever since Boris Johnson signed his botched Brexit agreement, businesses have faced unnecessary red tape, dodgy trade deals, skyrocketing tariffs, and untold misery.

“This was something Scotland did not vote for, and something Scotland will not continue to settle for.

“However, for as long as Scotland leaves its key trading tools in the hands of Westminster, it will always be vulnerable.

“Only with independence can Scotland finally rid itself of this corrupt, outdated Westminster mismanagement, take matters into its own hands, and finally regain its EU membership.

“There can be no doubt that Boris Johnson is failing families and businesses across the four nations.

“There is a clear choice facing the people of Scotland on 5 May.

“It is a choice between SNP action, compassion and leadership, or Tory inaction, self-interest, complacency and sleaze.”
