Drivers using the A9 between the Jubilee Bridge and Ballinluig are being warned to expect overnight traffic controls for around 10 weekday nights as work continues on the dualling project.

Temporary traffic lights and convoy working will begin on Monday 31 August, with a temporary realignment of the A9 due to come into use from Saturday 12 September.

The overnight restrictions will operate at two locations between the Jubilee Bridge, also known as the Tay Crossing, and Ballinluig.

Traffic management is scheduled to be in place between 7pm and 6am on weekday nights, with no weekend night works currently planned.

The work is required to allow construction of a temporary section of road which will move A9 traffic to the west of the existing route.

Moving vehicles onto the temporary alignment will create the space required for future construction and utility diversion work associated with the A9 Dualling Tay Crossing to Ballinluig project.

Once the overnight work is completed, the temporary traffic signals will be removed and vehicles will begin using the realigned section of the A9 from Saturday 12 September.

Drivers are being asked to pay particular attention to new signs and altered road markings as they approach and travel through the changed layout.

The latest work forms part of the wider programme to dual the A9 between Perth and Inverness, with construction activity bringing a series of temporary changes to the route as individual sections progress.

For those regularly travelling between the Highlands and central Scotland, the overnight working means additional journey time should be allowed while the temporary controls are operating.

Convoy working can significantly reduce traffic speeds through construction areas, particularly where workers are operating close to live traffic.

Motorists are being asked to approach the area carefully and follow instructions provided by temporary signs and traffic management teams.

The programme remains dependent on suitable weather conditions, meaning the planned dates could change if conditions prevent work from proceeding safely.
