Police Scotland Opens Recruitment Drive for Rural Officers in Argyll and Bute

Police Scotland is hosting an online recruitment event for prospective officers interested in rural policing roles in Argyll and Bute, taking place on 7 May 2026.

The event will run from 6.30pm to 8pm and is aimed at giving potential applicants a clear insight into the realities of policing in remote and rural communities.

It offers the chance to speak directly with recruitment specialists, understand the application process and hear first hand what the role involves on the ground.

The initiative comes as the organisation looks to strengthen its presence across some of Scotland’s most geographically challenging areas.

Chief Constable Jo Farrell highlighted the importance of attracting people from a wide range of backgrounds into the service.

“Policing is a varied, challenging and hugely rewarding career where officers and staff bring their own unique skills from a wide range of backgrounds.

“They are representative of the people we serve and we are keen to increase representation of our remote and rural communities.

“We have an online recruitment event for potential officers who want to work in these communities and I would encourage anyone interested in a policing career to take part.”

The push for recruitment in rural areas reflects a wider need to ensure communities across Scotland are properly served, regardless of location.

Probationary Constable Jordan Pitt, who is 18 months into his training, shared his experience of joining the service.

“I wanted a career where no two days are the same.

“A career in policing is giving me the opportunity to use and enhance the skills I already have to make a positive difference to others.

“It really is a job like no other and I would encourage anyone who wants to find out more about policing to join the online event.”

Chief Superintendent Gary I’Anson said the region offers a unique policing environment.

“I am grateful to our officers and staff for the fundamental role they play in supporting our local communities.

“Argyll and West Dunbartonshire is a unique and diverse area with ample opportunity for officers who want to experience rural policing on our islands and rural communities.”

Argyll and Bute presents a distinct challenge, with island communities, remote locations and a landscape that demands flexibility and resilience from those working within it.

For those considering a career in policing, it offers a different pace and a closer connection to the communities being served.

The recruitment event is part of a broader effort to ensure that policing remains visible, effective and representative across all parts of Scotland.
