Police Urge Public to Stay Away as Cairngorms Wildfire Continues

Emergency services remain at the scene of a large wildfire near Ryvoan Bothy in the Cairngorms National Park as police continue to coordinate a multi agency response.

The fire was first reported at around 11.50am on Wednesday 15 July, with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews continuing to tackle the blaze.

As a precaution, a number of nearby properties and premises have been evacuated while emergency services work to contain the fire.

The C7, known locally as the Ski Road, remains closed at Coylumbridge and members of the public are being urged to stay away from the area.

Police have assisted walkers off the hill and are advising anyone still in the area to continue making their way to safety.

Anyone requiring emergency assistance is asked to call 999, while walkers are also encouraged to let family or friends know once they have safely returned.

Care for People plans have been activated, with partner agencies contacting vulnerable residents in the affected area.

People living nearby are being advised to keep windows and doors closed because of smoke, while anyone experiencing health concerns should seek advice through NHS 24.

Police have also reminded drone operators that it is an offence to fly unmanned aircraft over or close to an active emergency response without permission from the emergency services.

Anyone planning to visit the area over the coming days is advised to check with their accommodation provider before travelling to confirm it remains accessible.

Emergency services continue to monitor the situation and further updates are expected as the response progresses.
