Responding to the UK Budget as proposed by the Chancellor this afternoon, Scottish Labour Finance spokesperson Rhoda Grant said:

“While much of the new investment contained in this budget is welcome, it is clear that this budget is an admission that austerity has been a failed experiment.

“Today’s measures go nowhere near to reversing the damage done to the economy and to people’s livelihoods by the last 10 years of Tory rule.

“With the new funding announced today, Scottish Labour believes that additional consequentials must be brought forward to the Parliament to discuss the Scottish Government’s spending plans.

“Additional funding from this budget must be used to deliver transformational investment in the areas that need it most, such as local government and social care.

“With the SNP-Green budget passed a short while ago, the Scottish Parliament passed up its chance to bring about profound and meaningful change in Scotland.

“Scottish Labour is clear: the money from this budget must go to those who need it the most.

“The people of Scotland cannot afford another missed opportunity”
