Roads Maintenance Programme for Lochaber Agreed

Members of the Lochaber Area Committee have approved a prioritised roads maintenance programme for the area for this year 2021/22.

The programme is based on current priorities.

The Capital budget allocation for Lochaber is £1,237,454, and the agreed priorities included in the approved road maintenance schedule are, for example:

Surface dressing works on the A884 and B8043;

inlay works at East Bay Mallaig, Lundavra Road, Lanark Place and Henderson Row;

Overlay works at Morar village, Mingarry and Torlundy Road;

Patching on various routes including Burnside Road (Strontian), Fersit, Loch Arkaig, Albert Road, and Angus Crescent.

Members were informed that a jetpatcher is hired for a one-month programme to repair urgent potholes prioritised in Lochaber using a cold-lay process of bitumen emulsion and chips.

The Highland roads budget for 2021/22 was approved at the Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee on 4 February 2021. 

The total Highland roads capital budget is £17.2M.

The current revenue budget allocation for Lochaber is £1,110,564 which is required to cover labour, plant and materials (including salt) for roads cyclical maintenance and winter maintenance activities.
