The SNP has urged voters to “raise your pens, vote SNP, and do your Scottish National Service to Boot the Tories Out” – as a new poll shows a majority of Scots oppose Rishi Sunak’s national service plan.
A new poll, published by YouGov, shows voters in Scotland are – by far – the most opposed to the Tory National Service Plan in comparison to voters in the rest of the UK.
The new YouGov poll found that whilst across the UK, 47% say they would support such a move with only 45% opposing, in Scotland 54% are opposed to the Tory plan with only 37% expressing any degree of support.
The detailed breakdown of the poll found that 37% of people in Scotland strongly oppose the Tory plan, with just 16% strongly supporting it.
In contrast, across the rest of the UK only 30% strongly oppose it with 21% strongly supporting it.
With the SNP the main challenger in every Tory-held seat, SNP candidates stand ready to reject this Tory national service plan and put Scotland’s interests first.
The Tories have admitted that Rishi Sunak’s national service plan would rip away monies allocated under the £212 million in ‘shared prosperity’ funding for Scotland – a post-Brexit scheme which already falls far short of previous EU funding.
Commenting, SNP candidate for Glasgow North Alison Thewliss MP said:
“This poll is proof that Scotland stands ready to reject Tory National service and this rotten Tory government – and that’s why it is essential to vote SNP on 4th July to protect Scotland’s young people and put the interests of Scotland first.
“With the SNP the main challenger in every Tory-held seat, we are asking Scottish voters to raise your pens, vote SNP, and do your Scottish National Service to Boot the Tories Out.
“Not content with destroying the hopes and aspirations of a generation of young people, the Tories now want to take them back to the 1950s with their National Service plans.
“Scotland wants no part in a Sunak service, which the Tories have even admitted will slash tens of millions of pounds of ‘shared prosperity’ funding to Scotland.
“On 4th July, vote SNP for a future made in Scotland, for Scotland.”
