The Scottish Government has announced a record-breaking £150 million capital investment to supercharge the offshore wind sector, creating thousands of well-paid, green jobs across the country over the next decade.
This landmark funding is part of a wider strategic plan, with up to £500 million earmarked over the next five years to leverage an anticipated £1.5 billion in private sector investment.
The ambitious plan aims to unlock opportunities across key industries, including ports, manufacturing, assembly, and major supply chain developments, positioning Scotland as a global leader in renewable energy.
A commitment to establish an offshore wind hub in the North-East was also revealed in the 2025-26 Scottish Budget, providing an essential link for industry collaboration with policymakers.
The announcement follows the Green Industrial Strategy, which identified Scotland’s wind economy as a priority area for growth and innovation.
Acting Net Zero and Energy Secretary Gillian Martin highlighted the transformative potential of this investment, emphasising its role in creating a just transition for Scotland’s skilled workforce and supply chain.
“Accelerating Scotland’s offshore wind capabilities presents enormous economic opportunities for our country,” Martin said.
“Our vast resources provide us with significant opportunity to create thousands of well-paid, green jobs while accelerating our journey to net zero.
“This significant investment will boost innovation and expertise, creating a highly competitive economy and a sustainable supply chain that will benefit all of Scotland for decades to come.”
Claire Mack, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, echoed the optimism, praising the direct utilisation of ScotWind revenues to fuel clean industrial growth.
“The renewable energy industry is pleased that the Scottish Government will increase the next tranche of its funding commitment to the offshore wind supply chain,” Mack said.
“This funding is a vital part of the investment landscape needed to secure significant private capital and optimise Scotland’s opportunity in offshore wind.”
With this bold move, Scotland is set to harness its natural resources, creating a greener, more prosperous future while leading the charge in renewable energy innovation.
