The Orkney Museum will come alive this April with a vibrant celebration of art, memory and imagination.
Opening on Saturday 5 April, the exhibition by Orkney-based artist Sheena Graham-George is titled All Kinds of Everything Reminds Me of You.
The show features a new collection of works that embrace painting, film, sound, text and handcrafted constructions.
At the heart of the exhibition is a tender tribute to the small miracles of everyday life.
A series of paintings on wooden panels marks Sheena’s return to the brush, following a time when painting wasn’t possible for her.
She describes the works as a joyful reflection on birdsong, cherry blossom and the sheer beauty of being alive.
The exhibition doesn’t stop at the canvas.
Sheena breathes new life into once-loved books found in charity shops, reshaping them into fresh vessels of visual storytelling.
She scours the coastline for driftwood, transforming weathered fragments into whimsical boats with vintage book sails.
Each creation carries its own imagined tale from the high seas, conjuring up a crew and a story that’s just waiting to be heard.
This tactile, playful process is matched by a quieter, more meditative artform in Sheena’s work with alternative photography.
Describing it as a kind of alchemy, she uses the method to honour the fine detail and fragile beauty of the natural world.
It’s an invitation to slow down, to look closely, and to marvel at what surrounds us.
The exhibition is not just a display but a window into Sheena’s world of creativity and curiosity.
There is something nostalgic and comforting in the way she connects objects, memories and materials with such care.
Her work reminds us that art can be found in the overlooked, the discarded and the everyday.
From weathered wood to delicate blossoms, everything tells a story.
And in Sheena Graham-George’s hands, those stories shine with warmth, wit and wonder.
The exhibition runs until Saturday 26 April and admission is free.
Visitors can explore the show during the museum’s opening hours, Monday to Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30pm and again from 1.30pm to 5.00pm.
Pictured is With My Feet In The Lilac Tree, a striking acrylic piece painted on wood that captures the spirit of the collection.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this is an exhibition that promises to lift the soul.
It’s a heartfelt celebration of life, creativity and the beauty of seeing the world anew.
