Solicitors are the backbone of local authorities, ensuring councils function within the law while serving their communities.

Veer Bansal took the plunge two years ago, joining Orkney Islands Council (OIC) as a solicitor, and he hasn’t looked back since.

It was during the festive season of 2022 that he stumbled upon a job listing for a solicitor on the Scottish Legal News Website.

At the time, he was based in Kirkcaldy, Fife, but his university connections had introduced him to Orkney.

After a chat with his family, he decided to take the leap and apply.

Orkney quickly became home, offering not only a welcoming community but also a supportive workplace.

Veer has found the legal environment at OIC to be incredibly rewarding, providing a constant variety of challenges and the opportunity to contribute to vital public services.

He describes himself as fortunate to be part of such a close-knit community, believing Orkney to be one of the best places in the UK to live and work.

Now, the Council is looking for another legal professional to join their team, with a permanent solicitor position available for those with expertise in property and commercial law.

Offering a salary of up to ÂŁ51,529, the role promises variety and the chance to experience a lifestyle that many envy.

Orkney has consistently been ranked among the best places to live in Scotland, and this opportunity could be a gateway to a fresh start in an idyllic setting.

Veer is eager to see more people make the move and is full of encouragement for potential applicants.

His advice is simple: don’t hesitate, just apply.

For those keen to learn more, Karen Bevilacqua, Service Manager (Legal Services), is available for a chat at 01856 873535 or via email at karen.bevilacqua@orkney.gov.uk
