Merkinch Primary School were delighted to plant a tree last week to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy Project.
The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
The tree, a Betula Zwitsers Glorie, was planted during a ceremony at the school on 4 October 2021.
Joining the school for the ceremony were Provost for The Highland Council Cllr Helen Carmichael and Lord-Lieutenant for Inverness Mr James Wotherspoon.
Cllr Carmichael said:
“I was delighted to join Head Teacher Jillian Kean and the school children on such a beautiful day to plant a tree for the Queen’s Jubilee.
“It was wonderful to have the opportunity to tour the new school and to meet more of the children who are delighted with such an amazing campus to learn and have fun in.”
Ms Jillian Kean, Head Teacher at Merkinch Primary School said:
“Merkinch Primary school pupils and staff were delighted to accept a very special gift of a tree as part of the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebration.
“The tree will make a lovely addition to our new school building and will be cherished by our pupils who have agreed to look after the tree on behalf of the City of Inverness.”
