We Must End Homelessness in Scotland

MSP for the Highlands & Islands Emma Roddick has reiterated the urgent need to do more to tackle homelessness in Scotland.

Speaking in the Scottish Parliament, Emma noted that the Scottish Government must readjust their policy further in response to the housing emergency in order to tackle homelessness.

During his speech, the Housing Minister said priorities include increasing Scotland’s housing supply and tackling homelessness.

Speaking after, Ms Roddick said:

“As many will know by now, homelessness is an issue very close to my heart, and I was glad to hear the Housing Minister, Paul McLennan, set out what the Scottish Government is going to do in response to the housing emergency.

“We know that too many people are still facing homelessness, and that experience never goes away.

“Anyone who spends time homeless is more likely to experience severe mental health issues, struggle with addiction, or die early.

“Yet, homelessness is avoidable, so, it should be extremely rare and very short for those who do experience it.

“It is clear that there is still work to do to end homelessness in Scotland, but I welcome engagement from the Housing Minister and look forward to meeting with him soon to discuss tackling homelessness, as well as the upcoming Housing Bill, in more detail.”
