There was great excitement at Greenwards Primary School in Elgin as the pupils welcomed a very special guest.

Stephanie Urchick, President of Rotary International, visited the school on Friday 6 June to celebrate the incredible achievements of its young RotaKids and their dedication to helping the community.

As part of the day’s events, President Urchick was treated to a lively and heartfelt performance from the P6 pupils.

They brought their Jacobites history project to life with a captivating 35-minute show, filled with facts, reflections, music and dancing, all inspired by their visit to Culloden.

Originally performed for parents, carers and members of the Rotary Club last November, the show was so well received that the children were invited to perform it once more for this special occasion.

Beyond the stage, these young RotaKids have also been busy raising funds for good causes.

The P6 group raised £75 for the Elgin Rotary Foundation through a car boot sale.

More recently, they teamed up with the P5 RotaKids for a sponsored walk in aid of Harry’s Hat, a hydrocephalus charity close to the heart of the school.

Their efforts raised an impressive £2450, a true testament to their compassion and teamwork.

The celebrations then continued at The Youth Cafe, where President Urchick met with around 28 young people and volunteers from Interact, Rotaract and the Elgin Rotary Club.

Over a relaxed lunch, they shared stories and experiences, showing how the Rotary spirit thrives across all generations.

Miss Kirstin Mustard, one of the P6 teachers leading the project, was full of praise for her pupils.

“Our pupils have been so enthusiastic and dedicated throughout the RotaKids projects,” she said.

“They worked really hard for our shared learning performance and were thrilled to showcase their learning about the Jacobites and our Culloden trip.

“We were so proud to welcome the Rotary International President and share everything the children have achieved.”

Vivienne Cross, Moray Council’s Head of Education, added her congratulations.

“The visit from the Rotary International President highlights just how creative, community-minded and committed our young people are,” she said.

“The RotaKids programme gives pupils fantastic opportunities to learn and make a difference, both in school and beyond.

“We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the positive example they set for others.”

President Stephanie Urchick was equally impressed.

“It was truly inspiring to see the passion, creativity and compassion shown by the pupils at Greenwards Primary,” she said.

“Their performance was outstanding and their community spirit shines through everything they do.

“RotaKids is all about empowering young people to lead with kindness and purpose, and these students are a perfect example of that in action.”
