Booking System Introduced for Vans and Trailers at Aviemore Recycling Centre

A new booking system for vans and trailers will be introduced at Aviemore Household Waste Recycling Centre from Monday 4 May 2026.

The change brings the site into line with other recycling centres across the Highlands, where similar systems have been in place for more than five years.

From the start date, householders using vans under 3.5 tonnes or trailers will need to book their visit in advance.

Bookings must be made at least 48 hours before arrival, with each vehicle limited to one visit per week.

Larger vehicles, including those over 3.5 tonnes, as well as tippers, flat bed trucks and plant vehicles, will not be permitted at the site.

The move is aimed at protecting access for householders, improving traffic flow and reducing misuse of facilities by commercial operators.

Ian Braker said:

“The Council operates 21 Household Waste Recycling Centres across the Highlands, providing householders with opportunities to recycle a wide range of materials, including cardboard, textiles, garden waste, scrap metal, wood, glass and electrical appliances.

“Since the introduction of booking systems at other sites, we have seen improved efficiency and vehicle flow resulting in a better experience for householders using these facilities.”

The booking system is already live on the Highland Council website, allowing residents time to plan ahead before the changes come into effect.

Information leaflets will also be available on site, supported by wider communication through local channels.

The Aviemore site is located at Granish Landfill Site and is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

Householders who are unable to visit the site can instead use the council’s bulky uplift service, which offers collection for larger items.

Charges for the service are £30 for up to three items and £60 for up to six items.

The introduction of the booking system reflects a wider approach to managing demand across recycling facilities in the Highlands.
