Work to restore the Cairngorm funicular railway is back in full swing this week, with efforts focused on resuming passenger services as soon as possible.
Balfour Beatty crews recently completed a significant programme to reinforce the 1.8km viaduct, concentrating on critical structural elements like joints, beams, and diaphragms.
However, further inspections revealed additional areas requiring remediation before the next phase could proceed.
Once these refinements are complete, Swiss funicular experts from Garaventa will arrive to conduct stringent mechanical safety tests and trial operations on the railway.
Following successful testing, Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd will take over the railway for staff training and final preparations ahead of reopening to the public.
Throughout this process, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), which oversees the funicular reinstatement programme, will maintain close communication with the Health and Safety Executive to ensure safety remains paramount.
HIE has committed to announcing a reopening date as soon as it is confirmed, aiming to restore this vital transport link as swiftly and safely as possible.
Meanwhile, the Cairngorm Mountain snowsports season has been underway since 21 December, with excellent conditions in the beginners’ area thanks to manufactured snow.
Visitors planning a trip are encouraged to check the Cairngorm Mountain website for the latest updates on weather and operational status.
