FOUR YOUNG ACTORS SOUGHT TO TOUR ORIGINAL NEW GAELIC PLAY AT BLAS FESTIVAL

Fèisean nan Gàidheal is delighted to be able to provide an exciting development opportunity for four young Gaelic actors through a continuation of its project Dràma air Chuairt (Gaelic Dràma Trail).

The project is based on the highly-successful Cèilidh Trail model but with four actors, instead of musicians, getting the opportunity to learn a wide range of drama skills before they embark on a tour of the Highlands.

The four young actors who are successful in auditioning will be offered a paid opportunity which will involve a week of training and rehearsals in Inverness where they will develop the production along with the director, and a week-long tour of the new original show, with performances all over the Highlands.

Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Development Manager, Calum Friseal said:

“We are delighted to launch Dràma air Chuairt and are very grateful for the support received from the Scottish Government’s Expanded Festival fund, managed by Creative Scotland,  which will allow us to offer this fantastic opportunity at both this year’s Blas Festival and next.

“This project is aimed at those Gaelic speakers aged 18-30 who may be seeking to launch or develop their acting careers and builds on earlier opportunities offered through Fèis-based activity in communities as well as Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s annual Drama Summer school.

“We hope it will encourage them to get involved with, or develop Gaelic drama in their own communities, but also to equip them with the skills to go on to become professional actors if that’s what they hope to do.”

Following the training and rehearsals, the participants will take the new original show on the road as part of this year’s Blas Festival programme, which runs between 4-12 September, with performances in high schools as well as public performances.
