Comhairle nan Eilean Siar training officers and DYW Outer Hebrides staff last week undertook equality training delivered by Show Racism the Red Card Scotland.

The training is the first stage of a partnership that will see SRTRC engage with CNES apprentices and pre-employability participants while advising staff on incidents of racism and equality protocol.

Staff were encouraged to discuss topics including bias, stereotyping and workplace inequality in an informative and engaging session.

Dolina Smith, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Apprenticeship Manager, said:

“Our apprenticeship and employability programmes are centred around getting all young people in the Western Isles ready for entrance to employment regardless of their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

“To achieve this aim, we must prioritise equality and ensure that all our staff have the resources and knowledge to proactively tackle inequality in all its forms.

“Thank you to Jordan, Chris and Jonathan from Show Racism the Red Card for all their help in arranging this training, I look forward to working closely with them in the coming months.”

Jordan Allison, Show Racism the Red Card Scottish Campaign Manager, said:

“It was great to be able to work virtually with a number of staff at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.

“Their team are highly engaged and have a real determination to provide the best possible support to their young people and future generations.

“We are looking forward to working alongside CNES apprentices and hope to engage Western Isles schools and teachers in Show Racism the Red Card sessions in the very near future.”
