Communities Urged to Step Forward for Regeneration Fund Opportunity

A golden opportunity has opened for communities across the Highlands and beyond, as The Highland Council invites expressions of interest for the 2026 to 2027 Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.

This Scottish Government-backed initiative is designed to breathe life into local places through grassroots regeneration projects, focusing especially on fragile and deprived communities.

At its heart, the fund champions ideas that are rooted in community ambition, aiming to reduce inequality and foster long-term inclusive growth.

This year marks a new chapter for the scheme, as it combines two previous programmes the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund and the Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme into one streamlined, powerful fund.

The message from The Highland Council is clear: if you have a bold, ready-to-go project that could make a genuine difference in your community, now is the time to step forward.

Councillor Ken Gowans, Chair of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee, said the council has a strong track record of success with this fund, securing grants for 19 projects since the scheme began in 2014.

He called the funding “an incredibly competitive challenge fund” and encouraged groups to act without delay if they hope to be considered.

“Only the most well-developed proposals that can demonstrate readiness to begin in 2026 to 2027 will be taken forward,” he said.

The deadline to submit an expression of interest is 13 June 2025.

Among the success stories funded in recent years are the Knoydart Bunkhouse, which received £560,000, John O’Groats Mill with £1.5 million, and Glenurquhart Hall which secured £602,500.

These projects stand as shining examples of what can be achieved when local passion is matched with meaningful support.

To be eligible, all proposals must be submitted through The Highland Council.

Organisations and groups with ideas that could help shape the future of their communities are encouraged to reach out to the Community Regeneration Fund Team by emailing RCGF@highland.gov.uk.

It’s a chance not just to secure investment, but to ignite lasting change and deliver something truly transformational for the places people call home.
