As Dingwall prepares to mark 800 years since becoming a Royal Burgh, organisers are inviting the local community to help shape a year-long celebration planned for 2026.

The programme, coordinated by Fèis Rois in partnership with The Highland Council and other local groups, will explore the town’s story, past, present and future.

Two public drop-in sessions are planned for July, giving residents, creatives, businesses and local organisations a chance to get involved and share ideas.

They will take place at the Fèis Rois office in Robertson House on Monday 14 July from 6 to 8pm and Thursday 17 July from 2 to 4pm.

All are welcome to attend.

Fèis Rois, one of Scotland’s leading traditional arts organisations, is based in Dingwall and is leading on the project with strong support from the local community.

The celebrations are already getting underway with a logo competition open to young people aged 8 to 25.

Entrants are invited to design a logo that captures the spirit of Dingwall, inspired by its people, history and future.

Designs can be hand-drawn, painted or created digitally.

The winning logo will be used throughout the anniversary year on all marketing materials and the winner will receive a £300 Fèis Rois voucher for classes or a residential course.

There will also be prizes for two runners-up.

Siobhan MacIntyre, the newly appointed Event Producer for Dingwall 800, said the competition is a brilliant way for young people to take part in a special moment for the town.

“This is an exciting opportunity for young people to contribute to a historic event and have their creativity recognised as part of a major community celebration,” she said.

“I’m sure that come next year there won’t be a single person in Dingwall who doesn’t recognise the Dingwall 800 logo.”

Siobhan, who is from the Highlands, joined the team in June and brings years of experience from major UK and international events including Glastonbury, Catherine Tate’s arena tour, and Strictly: The Professionals.

Cllr Graham MacKenzie, Chair of Highland Council’s Dingwall and Seaforth Area Committee, said the 800th anniversary would be a huge moment for the town.

“2026 promises to be a major year for Dingwall and the wider area,” he said.

“These events will help drive tourism, boost the local economy, and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of the town.”
