Eric Gray Services has accepted a £4000 donation to buy a specialist bike for adults with autism and learning disabilities.

Maintenance contractor Concrete Repairs Limited (‘CRL’) recently made the donation to the Hansel Fund at Eric Gray Services, that will allow the service to purchase a side-by-side tandem bike for use by individuals within Adult Services and the local community.

CRL have been working in Shetland annually since 2012 carrying out work on the maintenance contract at the Sullom Voe jetties, as a sub-contractor for Shetland Islands Council.

The company specialises in repairs and maintenance to concrete buildings and structures.

CRL have also provided wooden pallets from material deliveries that will be recycled in the Eric Gray workshop, to be made into garden planters and decorative items and then sold.

Gary Dunlop, Contracts Manager with CRL said:

“Our team has always been made to feel more than welcome in Shetland.

“We wanted to show our appreciation by giving something back that would have a positive social and environmental impact in the community.

“We’re pleased to help fund this powered bike in recognition of the wonderful service provided for adults at Eric Gray Services.

“We hope that they can enjoy plenty of fresh Shetland air and sunshine while they’re out and about.”

Connie Russell, Team Leader at Eric Gray, said:

“On behalf of Eric Gray Services, we’re very grateful to Concrete Repairs Ltd for their generous donation of £4000 to our Hansel Fund.

“Eric Gray Services continues to promote physical activity and inclusion within the community and adults have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in local summer cycle events, with the support of the Shetland Sport for All group.

“Cycling hasn’t always been accessible for all but with the introduction of powered and adapted cycles and trikes, inclusion has now become a reality, and it’s great for everyone’s health and well-being.”
