Etape Loch Ness Set for Record Turnout as 6500 Riders Descend On Highlands

More than 6500 cyclists will take to the roads around Loch Ness this weekend as the Etape Loch Ness returns on Sunday 26 April.

Now in its 12th year, the event has grown into the UK’s largest closed road sportive, drawing riders from across the country and beyond to the Highlands.

The 66 mile route will once again wind its way around Loch Ness, offering participants a mix of challenge, scenery and atmosphere that has made the event a fixture in the cycling calendar.

Riders of all abilities are expected to take part, from first time entrants to experienced cyclists, with entries selling out months in advance.

The route includes the well known King and Queen of the Mountain climb, which continues to be one of the defining features of the event.

Organisers say this year’s edition is set to be the biggest yet, reflecting the continued growth and appeal of the sportive.

More than 1000 riders will also be taking part in support of Macmillan Cancer Support, continuing a partnership that has raised over £2.6 million since 2014.

Malcolm Sutherland said:

“With just a week to go, the excitement is really building for what promises to be our biggest and most memorable Etape Loch Ness yet.

“Seeing thousands of riders come together to take on this incredible route, whether for personal challenge, charity, or simply the joy of riding is what makes this event so special.

“We’re also incredibly proud of the continued support for Macmillan Cancer Support, with riders once again raising significant funds to help people living with cancer across the UK.”

The event is expected to bring a strong boost to the local economy, with visitors travelling to the Highlands for the weekend.

Spectators are being encouraged to line the route and support riders, helping to create the atmosphere that has become a hallmark of the event.

As a closed road event, a number of traffic restrictions will be in place across Inverness and the surrounding Loch Ness area on Sunday.

Drivers are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.
