Young people across the Highlands have a new voice at the heart of local decision making after Eilidh Primrose was appointed Highland Youth Convener for 2026 to 2027. The 22 year old Inverness resident becomes the 18th person to hold the role, succeeding Leah McBain and representing young people's views directly to elected members and senior officials at Highland Council.

A shortage of suitable housing is forcing people to turn down jobs or delay starting work in Orkney, raising concerns about the impact on vital public services across the islands. Orkney MSP Liam McArthur has called for action after reports from NHS Orkney and Orkney Islands Council highlighted the growing difficulty of finding homes for people recruited to key roles.

Thirteen miniature cars are being hidden in shop windows around Nairn as the town begins the countdown to one of its biggest motoring days of the year. The treasure hunt returns ahead of Wheels of Nairn on Saturday 19 September, when 350 classic and modern vehicles are expected to gather and visitors will choose a People's Choice winner for the first time.

Two extraordinarily rare posters from the earliest days of the Royal National Mòd have been restored more than 130 years after they first advertised the celebration of Gaelic language, music and culture. The original posters from 1892 and 1893 are believed to be the only surviving promotional materials from the first years of the Mòd and will go on public display at the West Highland Museum in Fort William from 8 September.

A £1 million investment is bringing new bedrooms and refurbished spaces to hotels across the North Highlands and Wester Ross as Highland Coast Hotels continues its push to strengthen year round tourism. Properties at Kylesku, Plockton and Inverness have undergone major improvements, while the historic Brass Tap at Tongue Hotel has also reopened following its own transformation earlier this year.

Families will be able to travel across Scotland by train for seven consecutive days for £60 during the October school holidays as ScotRail brings back its Family Pass. The ticket covers up to two adults and four children and offers unlimited travel on ScotRail services during a seven day period, with journeys able to begin between Monday 12 October and Monday 19 October.
