Voluntary sector care providers across Scotland are being invited to apply for new funding to help staff gain essential qualifications.

Applications have opened for the 2025–26 Voluntary Sector Development Fund, which supports employers with the costs of training required for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council.

The scheme is particularly valuable for small and medium‑sized organisations but is open to voluntary sector employers of all sizes.

It is designed to help social care staff gain the skills they need to provide high‑quality care while easing the financial pressures faced by employers.

Announcing the launch, Social Care Minister Tom Arthur praised the commitment of those working in the sector and said the fund will make a real difference.

“The Scottish Government recognises that the social care sector is facing a number of challenges, and this scheme is just one of the ways we are working to support social care employers and their staff,” he said.

“That is why we’re continuing to invest in this important fund, helping hundreds of workers gain the skills they need to deliver high‑quality care to some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”

He urged voluntary sector care organisations to take advantage of the funding available.

“I would urge all voluntary sector social care organisations to consider applying for this funding to help with the costs of staff training,” he added.

The funding is expected to help hundreds of workers gain the qualifications needed for SSSC registration and continue their professional development in a sector that is vital to communities across Scotland.
