Small food and drink businesses across Scotland are receiving a welcome boost this summer, thanks to a fresh round of funding designed to celebrate local produce and culinary talent.
From bustling farmers markets to intimate masterclasses and vibrant food festivals, 15 exciting projects will share grants of up to £5,000 each from the latest round of the Regional Food Fund.
Managed by Scotland Food & Drink, the fund champions grassroots initiatives that help small businesses flourish, drive food tourism and showcase the very best of Scotland’s larder.
Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon warmly welcomed the new awards.
She said:
“Scotland’s food and drink industry is worth an incredible £15 billion to our economy and is one of our largest employers, already renowned around the world.”
“Engaging with regional markets is vital to achieving our industry’s strategy and growth ambitions over the next decade.”
“That is why initiatives like the Regional Food Fund are so important.
“They provide valuable support to smaller projects, helping to spotlight the wonderful products each region has to offer.”
Among the inspiring ventures receiving support this year are foraging experiences and culinary masterclasses at the Isle of Bute Food and Drink Festival, educational projects in Fife exploring the turnip as a climate-friendly crop, and skills workshops at Huntly Hairst’s popular celebration of local food and drink.
“I look forward to following the progress of each of these exciting projects,” added Ms Gougeon.
Fiona Richmond, Head of Regional Food at Scotland Food & Drink, echoed the enthusiasm.
“We are delighted to support 15 more collaborative food and drink projects across Scotland through this latest funding round,” she said.
“Our judging panel was truly impressed by the creativity and dedication of the applicants, whose passion is at the heart of Scotland’s vibrant food and drink sector.
“We know that local food and drink initiatives play a key role in driving the ongoing growth of our food, drink and tourism industries.
“Congratulations to this year’s recipients.
“We cannot wait to see their projects come to life.”
