There’s now more time to have your say on the future of development across the Highlands.
Highland Council has extended the consultation deadline on its key evidence papers to 12 noon on Friday, 2 May 2025.
The consultation forms a vital part of the early stages in shaping the new Highland Local Development Plan.
Once completed, the plan will guide planning decisions and future investment across the region.
The Council is asking the public and organisations to review and respond to the evidence it has gathered so far.
This includes detailed analysis on housing, the economy, transport, infrastructure, energy, climate change, the natural environment, placemaking and the coastline.
Each section sets out specific challenges facing the region and highlights the data and trends used to inform future action.
Also included are profiles of Highland’s different sub-regions, complete with facts, figures and local context.
Chair of the Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Ken Gowans, says the evidence needs to be robust before any firm proposals are made.
He says feedback is welcome on any part of the consultation or simply the areas of greatest interest.
The Council stresses that all responses will help shape the formal Evidence Report due later in 2025.
This report will then be submitted for independent review, forming the foundation for the draft development plan.
Alongside the evidence consultation, the Council is calling for submissions of new development site suggestions.
This call is aimed at landowners, developers and communities with land or property they believe should be considered for housing, industry or mixed-use purposes.
The same deadline of 12 noon on 2 May 2025 applies for site submissions.
The Council wants to hear from as many people as possible to ensure the final plan reflects a broad range of views.
